Metroid Dread - Entry 1: Prologue
I, Samus Aran, was born on the Earth colony K-2L. As a child, I lived with my parents until a brutal attack by the Space Pirates, led by Ridley, wiped out the colony. My parents were killed in the assault, leaving me as the sole survivor.
The Chozo, an ancient and highly advanced race of bird-like beings, discovered me and brought me to their homeworld, Zebes. To help me survive the planet’s unforgiving environments, they infused my body with their DNA, granting me enhanced strength, agility, and resilience. Under their guidance, I was trained in the ways of combat and entrusted with a Power Suit—a masterpiece of Chozo engineering designed to amplify my physical and mental abilities
More than mere armor, the Power Suit is symbiotic, seamlessly integrating with and adapting to my physiology. Its neural interface connects directly to my mind, responding to my thoughts and instincts with perfect precision. It houses some of the most advanced artificial intelligence in the galaxy and adapts fluidly to new technologies I encounter on my missions, evolving alongside me.
This fusion of my biology with living technology makes the Power Suit not just protection, but an extension of my very being and defines who I have become: a warrior unlike any other.
Eventually, I left Zebes and joined the Galactic Federation as a soldier, but I found their methods too restrictive so I became a bounty hunter, working independently to fight galactic threats.
Culminating from my first mission to destroy the Space Pirates, my legacy and expertise has revolved around Metroids, parasitic lifeforms that absorb the energy of whatever they come in contact with. Across countless missions, I have essentially eliminated the existence of this lifeform from the universe. As a result, a new parasite that was the primary prey of Metroids began to proliferate on planet SR388, the homeworld of the now-extinct Metroids. Unaware of the existence of this parasite, the Galactic Federation sent a BSL research ship to study the environment of SR388 since the eradication of the Metroids.
While escorting researchers on SR388, I was infected by this parasite. The infection nearly killed me, but galactic federation scientists managed to save me by using a vaccine made from the DNA of a baby Metroid I had once saved.
This new parasite was dubbed the X Parasite—a shape-shifting organism that mimics and consumes other beings. While recovering, pieces of my power suit infected by the parasite were sent to the BSL station for research.
Now fused with Metroid DNA, I gained new abilities, such as the ability to absorb X Parasites, but I also became partially vulnerable to cold.
After recovering from my near death experience, an outbreak of the X parasite was detected on the BSL research station. Given I was the only known being to have immunity to X, I was hired to go back to the BSL research station to investigate and contain the situation.
However, once I arrived, I discovered that the X Parasite had already taken over the station, creating deadly mimics of organisms, including an extremely dangerous copy of my fully powered self, the SA-X. The mission quickly turned into a struggle for survival.
During the mission I learned that the Federation wanted to capture the SA-X and study the X Parasites as bioweapons. Realizing how dangerous this is, I decided to destroy the station by sending it on a collision course with SR388. The collision destroyed the planet and the station, eradicating all known traces of the X Parasite.
However, sometime later the Galactic Federation received a mysterious transmission containing footage of a living X Parasite on the remote planet ZDR, suggesting that the parasite survived.
To investigate, the Federation deploys a group of seven advanced robotic Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifiers (E.M.M.I.) units to ZDR. The Galactic Federation designed the E.M.M.I. as state-of-the-art reconnaissance and research machines to operate autonomously in hazardous environments too dangerous for humans or even Federation marines. They were equipped with ultra-durable armor plating made from extremely rare and expensive materials stronger than even my Power Suit. Their sensors and analysis tools were precise enough to collect and extract DNA samples from target organisms without killing them. They were powered by advanced AI systems capable of adapting to alien environments and analyzing organisms on the molecular level.
But soon after landing, all contact with the E.M.M.I. units were lost. Given the potential threat of the X’s resurgence and my immunity, I am hired to investigate ZDR to uncover what happened to the E.M.M.I. units and determine if the X is truly still alive.
