Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Entry 24: Eventide Island
The next day, I made my way to the cliffs above Cape Cales, the best vantage point to survey the island. The island is separated from the rest of Hyrule with sandy shores disappearing into jungle. A cliff rises up from one of the shores creating a small tabletop plateau. The surrounding waters shimmer in the sunlight, calm and inviting, yet the island itself carries an unsettling presence. There are no signs of travelers, no smoke from campfires, no movement beyond the swaying trees. It feels less like a destination and more like a place forgotten by time, waiting silently beyond the reach of the mainland.
Determined and filled with curiosity, I leap from the cliff edge I was standing on, paraglider catching the wind as I soared toward the distant shore.
As soon as my feet touched the beach, something strange happened. My weapons, armor—everything—vanished in an instant. Left standing in nothing but my underclothes, I barely had time to process the shock before a voice echoed in my mind. A Sheikah monk’s voice.
"This is your trial," it declared. "Prove your resourcefulness. Obtain the shrine orbs using only what the island provides."
So, this was my challenge.
I quickly scanned my surroundings and gathered whatever I could—mushrooms and crabs from the sandy beach shore, anything to keep my strength up. Further down the beach, I spotted a Bokoblin camp. I had no weapons… until I noticed an old oar half-buried in the sand. It would have to do.
With a firm grip on my makeshift weapon, I charged the camp, dodging their attacks and striking them down one by one. When the last Bokoblin fell, I scavenged their supplies and pressed on, venturing into the island’s dense woods.
Then, I saw it—one of the shrine orbs, resting atop a raised wooden platform amongst the trees. But I wasn’t alone. Bokoblins armed with bows stood guard, their eyes scanning for intruders.
Taking a deep breath, I climbed to higher ground, waiting for the right moment. Then, in one swift motion, I leaped onto the platform, catching them off guard. Arrows whizzed past as I dodged and struck, forcing them back just long enough to grab the orb.
With no time to waste, I sprinted toward the beach, orb in hand, determined to place it on the platform I had seen earlier. One down… but I knew the true test had only just begun.
I needed a better vantage point, so I started to climb the cliff overlooking the Bokoblin camp. At the top, I discovered ancient ruins—and another shrine orb. But I wasn’t alone.
Monsters patrolled the area, their weapons far superior to mine. Armed with only an axe, a traveler’s sword, and a soldier’s bow, I had to be strategic.I crouched low, carefully lining up my shots, and took out a few Bokoblin scouts from a distance. But just as I was about to take another, one of them spotted me.
My cover was blown.
I tried to fight back, swinging my axe with all my strength, but I was outnumbered. Their shields deflected my attacks, and my weapons weren’t strong enough to break through. Realizing I was in over my head, I turned and ran.
Then, in an unexpected stroke of luck, one of the Bokoblins hurled a bomb barrel—right into a cluster of its own allies. The explosion sent bodies flying, instantly thinning their ranks.
Seizing the opportunity, I turned back and fought with renewed determination. The battle was brutal, but this time, I emerged victorious—though not without injury.
Needing to recover, I used the camp’s cooking pot, preparing food and elixirs from the ingredients I had scavenged around the island. As my strength returned, I grabbed the shrine orb and placed it on its platform.
From the cliff’s edge, I scanned the island and spotted the final orb.
It was wrapped around the thick neck of a sleeping Hinox. Its legs were covered in wooden armor, making a direct fight nearly impossible with my current gear.
I needed another approach.
A bold plan formed in my mind. I took a deep breath, spread my paraglider, and leaped.
If I was fast enough, I could land on the Hinox, grab the orb, and escape before it even knew what hit it.
The plan was going perfectly—until I ran straight into another monster camp.
Right in the middle of it all were electric Chuchus, crackling with dangerous energy.
Thinking fast, I dropped the shrine orb and hurled a bomb. The explosion triggered a chain reaction—the Chuchus burst apart, sending arcs of electricity through the air, shocking the nearby monsters.
The few that remained were disoriented, making them easy to take down. Once the fight was over, I retrieved the orb and placed it on the final platform.
At that moment, the shrine emerged from the top of the tabletop plateau, Koholit Rock. Simultaneously, I felt the weight of my belongings return—my clothes, weapons, and gear restored as if the trial had never taken them in the first place.
Before heading to the shrine, I decided to settle unfinished business. Now properly equipped, I made quick work of the Hinox, finally bringing it down with ease.
With that distraction dealt with, I climbed Koholit Rock and entered the shrine, claiming the spirit blessing within.
Now, it was time to refocus. My next destination was clear—Eldin, where another Divine Beast awaited.
