God of War (2018) - Entry 1: Prologue

After destroying the Greek gods, leaving Greece in ruin, and surviving my own attempt to end my life, I sought to escape my past and find redemption. As I wander the lands trying to rid myself of the Blades of Chaos, the instruments of death that I have been cursed with, I find myself in the Norse realm of Midgard. There, I meet and fall in love with a wise and strong warrior named Faye. Together, we settled in the Wildwoods within Midgard, where she helped me find some semblance of peace. I opened up to her about my past and where I had come from but she never shared details of hers. We had a son, Atreus, and Faye taught me to embrace a more compassionate, restrained way of life, countering my violent instincts.

I spent much of Atreus’ childhood away, trying to suppress my Spartan ways and protect him from my godly heritage. I focused on teaching him discipline and survival, but I struggled to connect with him emotionally, often choosing distance as a means of shielding him from my past. Meanwhile, Faye nurtured Atreus and guided him with her wisdom and taught him language, reading, and how to hunt. She told him countless stories of the nine realms and crafted him a magnificent bow.

When Faye passed away unexpectedly from a sickness, she left me her Leviathan Axe and a final wish: that Atreus and I scatter her ashes from the highest peak in all the realms. She had even marked specific trees for us to use in creating her funeral pyre.
